Respond to the Summary (this is for the 7-12 teachers reading "Secrets...")

I have already shared ideas from this book to another teacher and our guidance counselor. I told them they should read this book. There are many beneficial topics that teachers need to know or even reminded of. I plan to have my student teacher this fall read through this book. As I read the summary, I high-lighted one main idea from each chapter that I want to remember for my teaching.
1.The activities teens invest their time and energy in influence what activities they'll invest in as adults.
2.Physical movement helps the cerbellum develop, thereby helping teens imrpove their cognitive processing skills.
3.Teenagers value adult influence even though they complain about it.
4.The teen brain reacts emotionally instead of logically
5.Deficits and excesses of serotoin - the "take it easy" neurotransmiller-contribute to teen depression and eating disorders.
6. Teens have trouble anticipating the consequences of their behavior because they rely more on the emotional amygdala than the rational frontal lobes.
7. Make school place that allows teens to explore and develop a self-identity and express themselves as individuals.

This information gives me a challenge to be a better teacher by realizing just how the brain works in our teenagers. I look forward to this fall and being able to use the stategies and ideas from this book in my classes.

I wish other teachers at my school had this opportunity.
This was a very realistic class!!
Thanks again---You are still the caring teacher I remember. It was just yesterday? Right?
