1) In what ways might you translate the principles presented in the chapter into practical, everyday ideas you can use in your classes? Goal setting can be a great way of making students feel successful in the classroom. By giving students the choice they take responsibility in their work and ultimately take more pride in their work. Also, I have never taught the students about the multiple intelligences before but I like the idea. By knowing their strengths students have a chance to show their best work and be successful. To go along with this by knowing their weak areas they know what to work on to improve.
2) Armed with the brain research found in the chapter, what should educators be doing differently? In what ways might you suggest we start doing this?
Teachers should be giving students a chance to create long term goals. These goals give them a chance to focus. We should be assisting students with the creation of the goals so that they have to work but the goal is achievable. As they work towards these goals we need to give feedback to give them direction. Last of all by letting the students self-assess once again they are taking responsibility for their work.
3) How will you incorprate this research into your curriculum to make it more brain based? I think this chapter goes well with the chapter about giving students choices. I think that when given choices and a goal to meet the students can feel more excited about what they are learning. I think it also gives them a chance to show their strengths and feel successful. I would also like to take some time in my classroom to explore the multiple intelligences so students know their strengths and can use them to create their best work.
