Final Test
Create a brain based unit that you will use immediately in the fall semester that incorporates ideas from the book and fellow students. Keep in mind the 8 multiple intelligences as you design the lessons. Also allow students to have the choice to be assessed in their strong intelligence and indicate how you will do that. (I have some handouts that you will get that will help you with this) You may complete the unit using your districts' curriculum template or any other method you are comfortable with. Post a summary of your unit on the blog so that others who might want a copy can contact you. Also please send it to me by snail mail to 936 Linden Ave Rice Lake Wi 54868. I will plan to share it with other teachers when I go to workshops or do inservices. If you don't want me to share it, please let me know......Thanks.

I did my brain based unit on rocks and minerals. I included some experiments and activities to make the unit more hands-on. I also included a pick-a-project page where they could choose based on their strong intelligence.
I developed a unit for my Eating for Health class. This is for grades 9-12. The unit I chose is the New Food Pyramid. The main object for this unit is analyzing the food pyramid and applying it to a healthy life style for themselves and other.
One of main resources is from the internet. ( mypyramid.com )
The first lesson is where the students will design a poster using appropriate food, amount of food. They must use colors that identify the section. Then they will process this information.
Then they will play bingo creating their own bingo cards for their selection of food choices. The teacher will have a list of questions and they will determine if they have chosen the appropriate foods on their card.
The second lesson deals with functions of foods and deficiences that relate to the food pyramid. There they will work in groups. The group will outline a body on a piece of paper. They will fill in the major organs, etc. of the body. From this they will identify what foods are needed for the body to function and what happens if they do not get enough of that food.
The third lesson will analyze diets for amounts of fats, sugar, and oils. They will watch a program "Honey, I'm Killing the Kids" They will journal to process this informatins. I will have sheets of poster paper with sugar, oils, cholestrol, empty calories, eating habits and behaviors on it.Students will move to each table writing ideas related to the TV program from their journals. Music will be used. Process. Then the students will write long and short terms goals to improve their eating for a healthy lifestyle.
The fourth lesson will include the use of the Internet program using food that they consumed the previous day. The also will complete the part about physical activity. A checklist will be used to assess if they completed all sections. From this they have become aware of the importance of physical activity for healthy living
In Lesson five students will select and prepare foods for a healthy lifestyle. I will have groups of food from the pyramid and they will select a food from each group. Example: They may get yogurt, rice, oranges, fish, and peas. They would have to prepare two foods or more that would have the appropriate serving from the food pyramid. A rubric would be used for assessment.
For an over all assessment they would be able to choose various activities that involve the multiple intelligences. From this variety of lessons that students have been introduced to various brain-based strategies that will make them feel successful.
